Bank gears up for expansion

(RATON, N.M., March 12, 2003) – First National Bank of New Mexico has selected Raton-based David Parker Builders to oversee a major expansion of the bank’s Raton branch office on Second Street.  The selection was made March 10.

Parker will join W.M. Serazio Co., which began foundation work March 5 for a project the bank’s vice president and branch manager Mark Moore calls “vital to our operation.”

“With the increase in business we’ve received from the community, we can’t continue to operate within our current space,” Moore said, noting that the bank’s assets have grown from $65 million in December 1999 to $87 million at the end of last year.

The architectural plans, developed by Alpha Designs of Raton, call for 3,500 square feet of space to be added to the west side of the bank facility.  The result will be six new offices, a 440-square-foot conference room, a second public entrance and a new walk-in vault that will raise the bank’s number of safety deposit boxes from 80 to 290.

A fully remodeled lobby will include hand-carved wood doors, new carpet and tile and new furniture in the customer lounge.  Outside, the entrance leading to the drive-thru lanes and back parking area will be expanded from one to two lanes, easing traffic flow, particularly during busy periods.

Construction is set to begin April 1 and will include the widening of the front parking area to make getting in and out easier for customers.  All work is scheduled to be completed by the end of September.

Moore said the project will be a positive step in the bank’s constant push toward more efficient customer service.

“I think people realize that we do banking the old-fashioned way, on a one-to-one basis,” Moore said.  “This bank is totally based on customer service, and this project is something we hope will make the banking experience even better for the people we serve.”

The bank on March 10 opened a loan production office in Angel Fire and plans to establish a branch office there within a year.  Current branch offices are in Raton, Tucumcari and Logan, with the main office in Clayton.
